The Imperial Guard is restored on 1 May 1854, two years after the proclamation of the Second Empire. Two Grenadier regiments of 3 battalions, each of 8 companies, are created. On 17 February 1855, a fourth battalion is added, however, companies are reduced to 6 per battalion. The Crimean expedition brings out the need to create a third regiment by Imperial decree of 20 December 1855.
Since the seventies, André Jouineau (born in 1952) dedicated himself to studies in history and uniforms. Regular contributor to various magazines, he was appointed official painter of the Army in 1985 (title kept until 1994). Then, in the mid-nineties, he tackled computer illustration, wich allowed "creating" a new uniformology genus.
